Unusual Loss Of Colour
« on: June 07, 2005, 09:07:00 PM »

smile.gif  (i'm hoping your right but I can't figure it out)

V1.1 xbox
Tried it with an X3 and X3CE
Tried Bios X3_1959, X3_3293 and everything in between.
160G Western Dig. HDD Running most of the usual apps/dashboards etc.
Samsung 605B Dvd drive.

Tried booting through dashboards - Evox, XBMC, X3CL.
Tried running games, I am now at a loss. (always in black and white, even the flubber. The only exception is Flashbios is in colour)

Background, I received a chip from Archerdapunk, which i am about to send back to him. If you want to read that thread it's here:
http://www.teamxecut...ead.php?t=26192

He thought the chip was fried so i said i'd take a look. I put his chip onto my pinheader and flashed it. It booted up to X3CL (in colour) and I set up the chip as i normally would. I went online and told Archer that his chip was o.k. I turn on my xbox the next night and it's black and white. I swapped back to my X3 and it was black and white also. I pull everything out and check my wiring. No visible damage. The xbox has been modded for ages... can't recall when exactly. I tried various fixes as mentioned above and have had no luck. I'm hoping you guys can point out my oversight.

I Have confirmed that all settings are correct i.e. Pal/NTSC etc. I have reset my X3 chip to defaults. I have booted the xbox with chip disabled. I have Removed the chip completely... All of which don't help.

So in short, nothing has colour except flashbios flashing utility.  I am considering changing the video encoder chip and see what happens, but I am doubtful it will help, seeing as the colour works in flashbios.

My Original thread from Team X can be found  here:

Thanx!!

You never told us what kind of video connection you're using. Are you using component video cables? Make sure the cables aren't twisted or kinked in any place. I hooked up my Xbox to my friend's 46" TV via component cables, and the picture was black and white. I tried switching inputs, switching video modes and nothing worked. Finally, I noticed the cable was in a loop, so I unlooped it and it worked just fine. That might not be the problem in your case, but it might help.

Also, try using a different video cable and make sure it's not the cable (although techincally, that wouldn't really explain why flashbios has color).

VGA? You mean component right? Anyways, try using composite or S-video cables and see if that makes any difference.

No sorry my bad, i meant AV not VGA.  i.e. standard cables yellow white red.
I have tried Svideo wth no luck.

Does anyone think that changing the video encoder chip will help? Or if anyone else has a suggestion it'd be greatly appreciated!

Yeah I have tried it straight to the TV. I just used the amp because all of my equipment is setup that way. I can flick between TV/DVD/XBOX/Playstation etc.  more easily.

Alrighty Then! A Big thank-you to all who have offered suggestions, especially to Bouncing Rodney who gave me the solution I needed. The Xbox, even though set to Pal in the M$ dashboard and in X3 Config Live was still black and white. After using enigmah video mode switch program and selecting Pal (yet again) it worked!

I am unsure why selecting Pal in the X3 CL didn't do the job for me but i don't really care anymore coz I got the problem solved in the end!

Thanx again!
