I'm not too experienced with gaming on a console (like xbox360) with a monitor.
First of all, does widescreen work the same way on a square-sized monitor as with a 4:3 sized tv?
Also, how do you hook up the sound? The speakers could be simple (plug speakers into your console) but how would you be able to hook up a reciever (surround sound setup) to work with your monitor and console?

I'm considering the monitor alternatives over hdtv alternatives because my bedroom isn't exactly tv-friendly.
