Its not that uncommon to be 50Hz only at 1080i, unfortunately thats bad news for gamers in PAL land. I think you're screwed?

Nup, can't do unfortunately.

I remember taking my Xbox, TV shopping a while ago and trying out one of the 76cm Panasonics. Found out it could only do:

480p @ 60Hz
576p @ 50Hz
1080i @ 50Hz

I'd say your TV also only accepts these signals.

Just mod your Xbox to output NTSC and as long as your TV supports and/or progressive scan, 99% of PAL games will run fine in NTSC, 480p or higher.

It will be interesting to see if the 50Hz/60Hz thing still applies in the Xbox 360 at HD resolutions. If 480p/720p/1080i remain at 60Hz only, then people with 50Hz HDTV's will continue to be caught out.
Whatever they decide to implement, lets just hope for consistency across all hardware and software the world over.
