Widescreen Problem With Xbox And Toshiba Dlp Tv
« on: April 29, 2005, 01:31:00 PM »

So when you refer to the Dash showing up in widescreen, you are referring to the original MS Dash, right?

Your TV probably cannot autodetect 480p or 480i widescreen (however, it will autodetect 720p and 1080i in widescreen).

Take a look at the pictures, are they tall and narrow?  If so, it just means you need to change the zoom mode, or aspect ratio of your TV to match.  If you are saying the original MS Dash is going to widescreen though on your TV automatically, that seems to contradict my theory.  AVAlaunch and dashes that support 720p and 1080i are another thing completely.

It's not really a problem, I mean, there was no standard setup to tell the TV it is widescreen or not.  You need to set that manually as you have been doing.  BTW if the MS Dash shows widescreen automatically, that seems odd.  It doesn't surprise me if AVALaunch is showing widescreen if you have enabled it in 720p or 1080i.

Lastly, you DID enable widescreen and the HD modes in the MS Dash right?

Interesting, I also have a 52hm84.  I always have it set to theaterwide1.. the proportional stretch mode, didn't even realize I wasn't getting 16x9.

It's still weird though that the MS Dashboard is able to "trigger" the widescreen display, but the regular games can't...

Another suggestion after reading the manual of the TV.  You should set it to Full(option 4) rather than theaterwide 1.  TheatherWide 1 cuts off the top and bottom a bit, while Full mainly stretch uniformly the screen horizontally without cutting off top and bottom.  smile.gif
