Anyway To Achieve Higher Then 480

Yeah, i have a Mitsubishi 65" HDTV which can only do 480p/1080i... very frustrating since there are only a few games that support 1080i, and the new Ava dash only supports up to 720p... Team Ava said they couldn't get the 1080i to work reliably enough to enable it in the release...

My plasma can def accept all three siganals... 480p 720p 1080i But in XMBC all I get for DVD playback is 480p.... I wish to enable 720p, I hear there is no point with 1080i as the XB has'nt the power to upscale it properly....

Okay..I think I found a sure fireway to play DVDs at 1080i with the xbox. Using XBMC I disabled the FTP and the option for Internet Time Sync then rebooted directly to XBMC. I set the res to 1080i and tried playing A-v-P from the HD. Instead of locking up, I saw the LED go out, (which is good because I set XBMC to shut off LED when video is playing),  it started playing. Next, I tried The Incredibles from the DVD drive.... It worked too.

I am definitely going to get a RAM upgrade. I think the 1080i playback on XBMC is limited by the amount of free memory.

These pics are really big and I am too lazy to resize them so I am posting links insted of embedding them.

Two

NOTE-- The pictures are no so much to show the quality of playback as my monitor and camera suck. The pics are just to show  it  worked.

I am using the Dec 10th CVS build

how can you tell you are watching a Movie on the xbox in a certain format?

will it tell you somewhere when it starts playing?

im using the Avalaunch method.. as i heard the 720P is the better way to go.
but where will it tell me what its playing at.. in the menu?

What is the point anyway? A DVD is standard 720x480 resolution anyway. Anything above 480p and you're just upconverting.

Some screeners that have been ripped improperly or recompressed  can look like shit. That holds true for any DVD. However, the actual DVD screener is of the same quality as the retail copy.

I agree but this thread isn't about upscaling vs native it is about acheiving higher than 480p DVD playback.
