Xbox + Hdtv/component Pack -> Infocus X1 Projector

Hi octavecat

You need to boot up M$ dashboard in NTSC!! PAL HDTV is not enabled so the options for HDTV don't appear until you change to NTSC. I've connected my xbox to a benq 8700PE and I have to say the results are awesome!

Good Luck

NeOCidE,

THANK YOU!

It was such a relief to see that "480p" pop up on the projector status display this morning before I left for work.  Now comes the annoying part -- trying to keep 35' of VGA cable from looking tacky while running it across my living room.

(I think this should be added to the FAQ, by the way...such an easy thing and it had me scratching my head for hours)

Thanks again,
Justin

I have mounted my projector on the ceiling and ran the cables up over the plasterboard to hide them. So no mess, just a really good picture. Hope you get many hours of enjoyment out of it.

Take Care

Just seen this post, I have the same projector albeit branded an IBM. How did you hook it up as I keep reading conflicting reports, is it through the VGA 15pin DIN or with the adaptor that plugs into the S-Video socket?

Thanks

Oh and if your from the UK where did you get the HD pack from, is it the Official MS one or the Gamster 3rd Party?

Cheers

I was told VGA gives better bandwidth so I went with VGA.  In short...

XBox -> HD AV pack -> Component (female) to VGA 15-pin (male) -> Projector

Enable NTSC U on the XBox.

I hope that works for you -- it's working for me now and I am quite happy!

Sorry I'm not in the UK (I'd much rather be there too).

Maybe you could help me as well--I hooked my Xbox up to a Panasonic PT-L500U projector with component cabling via the Xbox HD AV pack, and the image I get is Black and White!

I went in to check under settings in my original M$ dashboard, but can't find any options under video except for "4:3, letterbox or widescreen".  I think I'm missing other options, such as parental lockout control too (not that I'd use it, but it's odd that it's not there).

I have a Xenium chip, by the way...

Thanks!

How do you boot a Pal Xbox to NTSC?  Would this also improve things with a Sagestar VGA adaptor? Coz at the moment its cr@p and very low res!

Sorry - to post I worked it out. And for info it's still pants! Cannot play Halo2 on my PC monitor via the Sagestar vga dongle - On pal its way to dark even with everthing turned up full and the picture quality is rubbish and unplayable. On NTSC its sharper and brighter if were not for the fact that I get a 2 inch black scan line down the centre of my screen and two images it would have been acceptable lol...

Never mind. Anyone got any better ideas for the lan parties and using a PC 19inch montor?
