My Xbox Has Snow?
« on: November 08, 2004, 10:19:00 AM »

I just did a XPOD Xbox conversion.  The Xbox is a straight up transfur to the xpod case.  Nothing was messed with.  ALl components were carefully removed.  What I noticed was when i use the HD pack for video. The screen seems to have a hase of snow over it.  The patterns are not random.  and they seem to scroll over the video like a SNOW overlay.  This snow is very light but very noticeable.  WHen i use the S-video or Composite cables the snow is gone.  I tried Multiple HD packs and they all work perfect with my other Xbox, but with the Xpod Xbox they all show snow.  So im ruling out the HD pack as the problem.  Any Ideas?

Thanks,

The effect you are describing is lack of screening inside the case or some of the unscreened wires are routed close to a source of interference in the case. You will have to strip it down and try moving some of the internal wires make sure they are all dressed well clear of the PSU

I'm not familiar with the XPOD but it sounds like you don't have enough RF/EMF shielding.  unsure.gif

Xpod is an all acrylic replacement case for the xbox.

And yes, you're not the first person to notice RF/EMF interference after converting to xpod.  I get a little bit of it if I use the xpod on top of something metal.

If the xpod is on top of something metal (like a shelf) trying moving it somewhere else.  Also try to maximize the distance between the xpod and the cabling you're using to connect to the TV.  Don't have the cable coiled up near the xpod.

I highly doubt it's the mod chip wiring, but it's possible.  A wire that just happens to be in the right position and the right length could be acting as an antennae for RF interference.

Unlikely.  That XPOD sure looks pretty but it doesn't appear to have any metal to shield from RF.  When you take apart your XBOX all those thin metal sheets are there for a reason and it isn't heat dissapation.  It's all RF/EMF interfearence shielding.  I wonder if the XPOD is certified by the FCC?  unsure.gif

Had anyone had any luck with fixing this problem. There is quite a bit on "snow" on my TV because of it. It happens whenever the Xbox is powered on....
