Resolution Question
« on: November 02, 2004, 12:59:00 AM »

Ok this may sound weird but  in some emulators i can switch the resolution from 480I to 720x480 and it looks better i thought 480I was the same thing as 720x480 whats the differance here and if 720x 480 is better can i make it so all my xbox games play through this resolution?  Oh and when i bought my tv its not a hdtv but it said it could reacha  higher resolution i dont rember the details but might that have something to do with it?

The latter might be referring to 480p.

If it is not an HDTV (supports 480p, 720p, and 1080i) or EDTV (supports only 480p); and the only cables that can accept these resolutions are component, DVI, or vga, then your TV will only support the standard low resolution of 480i.

my tv supports svideo component 2 av and one moniter out but it is not an hdtv but like i said when i bought it at best buy it said it could reach a higher resolution but didnt have detailed specs on it.  So what i siad at first is (is 720x480 better in some way that 480I)?  and if not why would this emulator let me switch between the two with no problem whatsoever?  and it looks like it comes in better under 720x480 so whats the differacnce?

There is no difference.  The only possible difference is that it might be progressive, which you haven't been able to verify to us one way or the other.

Ok, so 480i and 480p are 720x480, but with the modes listed the way you listed them, it sound like their 720x480 is probably a "vga" type mode meaning that it's probably progressive and at a scan rate for a computer monitor instead of the typical NTSC rate.  That would be my guess at least.
