Wire A Microphone or Headset or audio input
« Reply #30 on: March 04, 2005, 12:53:00 AM »

OK, been wondering for a while if i should pay 30-35 bucks for the xbox communicator....and now i have a technique that might work n save my money.

For all those expert modders heres the question.......

Will a USB Headset work if u mod ur "memory Unit" to "USB"?

Then all we would have to do is mod the memory unit input to usb(which i have seen many tutorials of) and plug the usb headset n talk as much as u want on live!!!!!!!!!!!

EDIT: NVM.....i just found out how expensive these USB motherf*ckers are.

But any ideas are still welcomed.

hey there guys

i dont know if this has been posted before. i did a quick search and didnt come up with anything.

say you did that mod where you get an xbox memory card, take teh guts out of it and sticka  usb conenction in teh end of it (usually to use a usb memory stick as a memory card for your xbox).

would it work if you bought a normal pc usb heatset, and plugged it in to that usb slot?

i figure one like this would work.

what do you guys think?
cheers

Does anybody know of a way to use a normal PC headset with the xbox? Maybe an app or a mod or something.

nope, not really.

you woudl have to write drivers for that particular headset, and intergrate that with the xbox kernal.....not easy.

Hi!

Is there anyone that knows how to connect a normal microphone/headset to the xbox controller without the communicator thing. Is it just to solder the headset wires into the memorycard port? Then, what pins is it that you use?

Please help, I don't wanna puschase the communicator, 'couse i'm extremly cheap...

It's a USB connector.  So in theory you could use a USB headset, however, since the XBOX only has a driver for it's own headset, you'll need to use the USB chipset that is compatible with the driver on the XBOX.

Then, cant you just replace the original driver file in the game folder, with the driver file that is ment for the headset you'r using ?  Or are the drivers in different formats??

Yes, if you have the XBOX XDK and write a hardware level driver for your USB headset, you should be able to install that on the XBOX hard drive no problem.
