Hd On Samsung Lcd

im a n00b with this HDtv on vga monitor business. I have a 3rd party HD pack, a sync on green monitor and a vga-to-component video cable. Using the conjunction of the three + VGA bios, I read somewhere else on the boards that this can only support 480p, is this true?
