Is The Psone Lcd Usable In The Xbox
« on: October 19, 2004, 10:14:00 AM »

Im getting a PSone lcd screen with the car adapter. I was thinking about "merging" it with the Xbox. Since the car adapter pulls 12V I can maybe use the HD's 12 V line. Any comments or help.
Edit: Its stated at 7.5V so I think I can use the exhaust fan pin on the mobo.

I bought two of those LCD screens back when they were on clearance at Target. I've since sold them, but I was looking to make them into portable monitors before I did. You should be able to get it to work with the XBox if you wire it correctly. I remember in my research I found a project where someone merged the PSOne LCD with a GBA. I'm almost positive that he listed the pin-ins for the LCD. If anything the LCD has the capability for composite video through the rear mini-jack.

*edit*

Here's a page that tells you how to turn it into a VGA monitor:

heh thanks. Nice mod but now I want to know if I can solder the wires to the mobo. Kinda like the Hip Pad mod but this baby will be going somewhere else. I got no knowledge of AV in the XBox or anywhere so i was wondering if one of you people could help me out with the connections.

There have been a few posts about this. I think there even may be some tutorials written about getting VGA out of the XBox.

www.bit-tech.net/article/136/2

that shows where the dcc pin is on the psone lcd. you can take +5v from the red cable on the hdd molex. I do not know enough about the xbox motherboard etc.. to tell you how to get composite video internally, but I imainge it can be done.

Ignore the stuf about the vga wiring, as that is rgbhv, and for the xbox we will be dealing with composite video, dcc is all you will need from that guide in order for the lcd to power on.

It does require 7.5volts, I cannot help you with a circuit design though sorry.
