Dell Fp2001 And X2vga

ok. . . doing the auto adjust (duh) improves the image a bit but its still nowhere near the crispness as when i scale the image down to the 1:1 ratio.  is there anyway to get the entire monitor to look like that?

Well, I don't have an answer to your question, but

I have a modded xbox and I always get a very heavy green tint with it no matter how I configure it.

My suitemate's un-modded Xbox does not have this green tint -- it is perfect and the X2vga is awesome!

Do you have a modded xbox>?

With your green tint, do you also see a number of bright slightly-diagonal lines?  If so, it sounds an awful lot like a busted monitor I used to have.  Something was loose in the monitor's mainboard, because if you fiddled with it enough, it went back to normal.  My point is it could be a bad/missing connection at the monitor cable end (I think it's the sync, but I don't really know).

If you every find a solution, please let me know.  I was originally thinking this was a problem with the BIOS, but since you said that your CRT is working just fine, I am not so sure.

But my LCD works fine with the unmodded XBOX, and this link

http://www.xbox-linu.../Xbox_VGA_HOWTO
[read the last paragraph]

also suggests it is a bios problem.  However, I have the Conexant chip and not the Focus, so I am still in trouble.

This may also have something "sync on green" for LCD Monitors but I have no knowledge regarding that area.

Basically, I have looked all over the 'net but with little fruitful results.

I will test it out on a CRT and let you know how it goes.

Thanks

i've been emailing neoya about the problems i was having with my Dell fp2001 and the recently let me know that it is a compatibility issue. although i have no idea why other users on the board seem to have their x2vga's work fine on their xbox (i.e. catgut's x2vga seems to work perfect for him). anyway, they offered to send me the new version of x2vga+ for free and said it would arrive sometime between mid and late november. if that doesn't resolve the issue, they said i could just return both (they pay for shipping) and would refund me the original price i paid for.  'till then, i don't think any amount of dipswitch setting, auto-adjusting, bios changing, or praying will get this thing to produce the same results on a CRT on my LCD. read AoshichanX's post and read that link (just above) if your monitor is extensively dark and has a greenish tint.  i think it may be a combination of monitor incompatibility, product inability, and the xbox 1.0 video chip.

QUOTE (m3rk @ Oct 13 2004, 02:14 PM)
i have an 1.0, 4981 bios and i just got the x2vga. for some reason the screen always has a green tint and it doesn't seem like i'm getting the resolutions that other people with different lcd monitors have. i tried setting the dipswitches 1,2 up, 3,4, down, and all dipswitches off but i'm just not getting the type of output i thought this monitor was capable of.  i changed all the settings in the m$dash to display all the video modes too. . .is there something that i'm missing? am i supposed to have a specific bios or adjust my monitor in some way? or am i just stuck with a monitor that just won't support 480p? i've read all these great reviews and got amped to play halo 2 on the fp2001 and now i'm just thinking of bringing my old CRT out of my garage.

That is the exact same problem I'm having ohmy.gif  I have a 1.0 xbox so it sounds like my problem is the same as yours but I'm using an X2VGA+. It was weird because the X2VGA+ was working for like an hour before it started giving me a green tint.

yes i to am dissapointed, the picture is just no good and i had to se ye olde svideo again :'(. Its the fact that our monitors have to interpolate from its native res (1600x1200) all the way down to whatever tv it (sumwhere aroun 640x480). This is why it looks so bad on our otherwise great monitors. I have since found a vga adapter which supposedly upscales res to 102x768, but i still dont trust it that much, heres the link....

http://www.lik-sang....oducts_id=3235

anyone have one? it has svideo in, vga out and upscales the res to 1024x768, which wouldnt look so bad.

mine arrived to day, when monitor is in 1:1 mode i get really small screen but pic is sharp, when i select the ratio to aspect it stretches it it to full screen. This gave me an orange tint which was removed when i slected the Blue option in the dell 2001fp config screen. picture is sharper than using the SVHS port but i get some blurring in burn out 3:/

fixed mine and its werking fine, Dragonlair 3d (ideal test game) does 720p fine, and 480p is displayed at the right res.

you need to dl the latest live upgrade , do it by banging in a game (burn out 3 is fine)  connect to XBL. reboot to dashboard and hold down both triggers and click down both sticks screen should flash. go to video ooptions and enable 480p and 720p (1080i is not support on dell 2001fp)  best games to test are Dragons lair 3d, and tony hawks under ground. both should run fine at the right res on 720p mode also worth noting is i had to select the blue option in my dell 2001 fp set up screen and aspect ration instead of 1:1 mode.

hope it helps

Hrmm, it sounds like there is definitely a problem that goes beyond the subjective "it sucks because 480p on the X2VGA has less anti-aliasing."

Yes, I still use my 1.0 Xbox with my x2vga (not +) on my Dell 2001FP and love it.  I'm now running my 1.0 box with an x3 chip and the 1959 BIOS.  I had an X2.3 in it before.

However, I recently bought an x2vga+.  I bought it because I found someone selling it for cheap and I wanted a spare in case my original x2vga ever crapped out.

To my dismay I found out that the x2vga+, when hooked up to my 1.0 box, shows a slight greenish tint on everything.

So obviously there's something different beyond just new/different audio & video connectors on the x2vga's.

It looks like we need to start polling and compare xbox versions/xbox video chips to x2vga versions/serial #'s and find out which combos actually work.

if your based in the USA then yes it will work un modded for xboxes in PAL region ie europe/australia then you will need to mod it to ntsc mode.
