is your TV widescreen or something? im not entirely clear on your problem.  if so not all games support widesreen.

well how much of teh screen is not filled with these games? check your video settign in the M$ dash. the video should be set to letterbox

i think it might be your tv. how old is it? does it also do this when you are watchign normal tv?
and one other thing, if you have more then 1 av input on your tv, try plugging your xbox into the other port and see what happens

PS2 is notorious for this type of the thing, especially on a hi def set, I think it's called blanking in the professional video world....though 98% of my xbox games seem to fill the screen just right(even 4x3 games)...maybe there's a horizontal adjust on the back of your set?...you might be able to stretch the sides out a bit.
