there is a another pic that describes why the switches are needed for.  Not sure if you can wire a vga port without switches though.  Mabye if you bridge a couple points.  And does the VGA require the white wires to work?

Props to JaradC01 for that nic diagram.

Also, yes the white wires are needed, as well as the Sync Seporator Circuit

That diagram shows what the switches do... In two places..  blink.gif

You are correct, but I was talking about the binary part of it and the whole reasoning for them is.  What I mean is why you cant just plug in your wires into whatever connector you want and it work.

What's the reason for the Sync Seperator Circuit?  Refresh rate for the monitor(just a guess)?

If the vga port was left out would it still be needed? Example can the whole bottom part of the diagram be left off?  I know this is not what he is talking about but I'm still interested

I just realized that I'm being hypacritacle (is that a word?)  unsure.gif talking about this in the wrong forum.  I guess we all are to a point besides I don't think it counts when replying to a post. wink.gif

You can't just plug in your wires and everything work, because the xbox does not output to every connection at once... and since the S-Video port in Advanced mode uses the same wires as the Y and Pr signals in HD mode, they cannot be used for the same signal at the same time.

The sync seperator circuit gives the monitor horizontal and vertical sync signals, so it can set the refresh rate.  You do not need the LM1881N if you have a monitor that supports SOG (Sync on Green).

You can leave anything (other than the LM1881N chip if you're using VGA, unless your monitor supports SOG, then you can leave it out as well) in the diagram out that you wish.  You can leave the VGA off, and everything else will work just fine.

Edit: Oh, and Palmore, I have since updated the diagram to show the switch settings for 15KHz PAL mode.  Not that big of an update, but you may want to update the image that you have.
