Video On Component But Not Composite
« on: October 02, 2004, 06:38:00 PM »

I have a 1.3 mobo that I got with no video (audio OK). I tested and I also got no video with a standard composite cable.

Hooked same mobo up to my HDTV with a component cable and it works fine. Any ideas on what could cause such a thing. Obviously something in the composite circuit it trashed but anyone have a clue how to repair it?

Thanks!!

hmm, I'm gonna have to try that.  I didn't touch test my filter looking thingies.  I know exactly what you're talking about, though.  Cool that it's working for you.

using a multimeter isn't tough, but soldering a new filter or whatever the thing is can be.  It's a matter of how you hold the filter while you sodler it on.  If you have big hands it could be pretty hard.  It's only 2 points, but they're relatively small.  Practice on something else first then go for it, but only if you've exhausted other possibilities.

First thing I did was solder a wire from one side to the other and that worked fine. It's easy to solder the filter on, was a royal pain to get the one off a bad board without breaking the thing.

Also,  can someone who knows which Fliter Birdtales is talking about, download one of these pictures and circle it for me, then post it back in this topic.

This one

Put either the red and black on each of the lines I drew in. My bad filter read open the good one read 2.4 ohms.

The Ohms section of a meter has a headphones looking symbol. I read on 200 ohms scale. Touch the leads together first. They should read 0 ohms or close to it.

Motherboard was not plugged in. I read it out with power OFF. I then soldered a wire from one side of it to the other and put it back in the Xbox and got video. However if it reads around 5 ohms there is no reason to do that and you have a different problem.

By the way the markings for FL are on the board not on the filters themselves.

I actually had the EXACT same problem when I first did my A/V mod... I had pulled the orange one off... after looking for a solution for ages... finally figured out that I had pulled it off... resoldered it on... worked like a charm.
