I believe any kind of USB TV-Card will do the job nicely, such as http://www.hauppage....s/data_usb.html

Just use whatever inputs are on the USB breakout box (S-Video, composite, or antenna probably).

If it has S-Video in, you are set.

Well your laptop doesn't have any video input.

You could look for a video capture card.  You could try USB but you'd probably have better luck with PCMCIA.  But remember there's a lot of encoding with those methods, so there will probably always be some lag on the screen.  You'll also see additional pixillation as your video stream is converted to MPEG2 (or DV depending on the hardware) on the fly.  Actually if your laptop has FireWire (IEEE1394) you could connect via a miniDV Camcorder if your camcorder supports FireWire passthrough.

Well, I haven't done this on Windows, but theoretically, you would connect your XBOX via S-Video/RCA jacks to your camcorder.  Your camcorder would connect to your computer via FireWire.  Set the camcorder to VCR mode, and it should want to record/monitor the video input now instead of the lens.  Then with whatever software you use on Windows to aquire/monitor video across FireWire, you should be able to view the video coming across the FireWire port.

No laptop that I know of has a VGA input port.  That's an output only port.

The only way you're going to be able to view your XBox on your notebook's LCD is by using some form of Video Capture (ie: external capture card, camcorder with usb 2.0/firewire). How well a Video Capture device works depends on many things. However it all comes down to how fast your machine is. If you have a 2.8GHz processor with 512MB of RAM, you're probably safe with buying just a S-Video to USB 2.0 cable. If you have a 1.0GHz with 256MB of RAM, you'll probably want to get a full capture device that does it's own encoding. Either one will not guarrantee that you'll have a smooth picture all the time.
