i have a pcb board i got with a comp case that has 2 jacks on it a headphone jack and a mic jack. i want to wire both to work with headphones there are 4 wires comeing off of them one is

R = no idea (prolly right?)
G= ground
mic = mic but where do i hook it up for headphones
L = no idea (prolly left?)

and it has 2 usb ports on it they are labled

G = ground
+ D = no clue
- D = no clue
+5v = from controller power.

what i am wondering for both is what wires from the controller ports to wire to the usb ports.

and for the 2 headphone jacks witch pin on the back of the mobo to solder too.

if search was up i would search but just a minite ago it was down so therefor i cant search.

Microphones only use 2 wires... so the microphone jack only uses 2 wires.  Headphones use 3 wires, 1 ground, and 2 audio signals (Left and Right)... so the headphone jack uses 3 wires.

What's most likely happening, is the microphone jack and the headphone jack are using the same ground.  All you should have to do is solder a wire from either the Left or Right (or both if you want both of the audio channels) to the Microphone.  If you solder both the Left and Right channels... you will have both of the sound channels, but it won't be stereo... you'll just have both the left and right channel in each ear.

For the mobo pins... look at my diagram Here.  You will solder the "R" to Pin 2, and solder the "L" to Pin 3.  The "G" can be soldered to either Pin 4 or Pin 5.

For the USB ports:
Ground goes to Ground.
D+ (Data +) goes to the Green wire.
D- (Data -) goes to the White wire.
+5v goes to +5v.

Hope that helps.

Correct.

As for there being a dial (Potientometer) to control the volume... you would only be able to turn the volume down, and not up.  If you still want to add one, your local electronics store should have them... they're called "Audio Taper Potientometers".  I'm not sure what resistance you'll want, you can try any of them, as they will all have the same max volume, since all of the Potientometers have 0 ohm resistance at max volume.  The only thing that will change is the minimum volume.
