Make sure you enabled widescreen on your XBOX and make sure your TV is set to "standard" or whatever disables any "stretch" modes.

I bet he is talking about the difference that occurs when going from 480i to 480p.

That is that the normal TV interlacing adds a kind of anti-aliasing effect which most people take for granted until they move to HDTV.

His use of terminology is confusing. He is using "along the edges" not meaning the edge of the screen, but rather the edge of a line/region.

When he went to HDTV, he flipped the Xbox into progressive mode.

Now the jaggies, which were really there all along, look far worst.

The problem is that the games he is running do not all take advantage of the Xbox's one BIG feature, namely hardware anti-aliasing.

Games written specifically for the Xbox seem to do so, but others not.

Finally he is also not (yet) running any 720p game, else we would have heard how wonderful it looks.

While it's never "true" black with a rear projector bulb LCD's, it should be dark enough that you cannot tell the difference.

Play with the controls and increase the contrast ratio, then adjust the brightness so that compared to a brighter object, blacks do indeed look black.

I hate bringing up old posts but since I have the same issue, no difference than creating a new topic.

So I have the Sony KDF-55XS955.  Love it.  Only issue is what is described here.  Madden actually looks worse running in 480p on my HD TV than in 480i otherwise.  Short of only getting games that are 720p or 1080i, is there something I can do to help alleviate this particular issue.  I'm hoping running through the Avia disc might help but seems like its just a function of the technology and the game maker.
