Viewsonic- N4 Video Processor
« on: May 11, 2004, 05:16:00 PM »

So i decide to buy a 200$ View Sonic Video Processor that takes regular video in, S-Video in, and RF-in and does RGB out. So get home plug her up, PC looks normal going thru it so try xbox. Now the picture is just fuzzy. So i change the Resolution to 1024x786 using the  Processor's onscreen menu ^^. and after awhile off playn wiht colors and other crap its looks normal. But not some ultra great SUPER crystal clean clearness. =( So what exactly is it im not doing to get awsome picture?

Picture is always gonna be fuzzy, the connection between your xbox and the n4 is still analog, with a resolution of 720/640x480. The XGA (1024x768) mode on your n4 only scales your native 480i input to that size, giving no increase in quality.

If you really want to use a monitor, and have crystal clear images, go for an X2VGA or some other high quality VGA adapter for xbox

As he said.

Though what are you trying to drive?

A component RGB set? or a PC monitor?

Alright i get what the problem is. Itll always look bad if the input is S-Video, RF, or Regualr video cables. So i need a box that takes RGB or Component in and out. The reason i dont want to buy a X2VGA is because ill probably wont get a HDTV for 4 or 5 years. So i want a VGA box that i can use for more then just one system. So i went to Lik-Sang.com and this looks like the only thing that would work and look good.

To the guys who posted above(or anyone else for that matter) tell me what you think of the VGA box listed above. Thanks ^^. and ill be using a 19" CRT monitor.

Edit: heres a Comparison chart showing all its Specs

The problem is that you'll still need a HD Pack or equivalent to create the analog RGB output which that box requires.

The X2VGA is a cheaper solution, though that box will probably better handle the 480i signals.

Also what is worrysome is that it maxes out at 640x480.

The X2 outputs higher than this.

Yup I have to agree with livingonwheels. You got ripped off. I got mine from Fry's/Outpost for $60 AR when they went on sale about a year ago: Outpost ViewSonic NextVision N4 Video Processor $100 Go back and return it

Anyways, in defense to the N4, it is designed to display NTSC TV style resolutions on your PC monitor to be watched at a distance. When I first got mine, I was disappointed as well at the "fuzzyness" but realized that PC gaming is totally different from TV/Console gaming. With PCs you're like inches away from the screen, hence the need for higher resolutions. But for TV/console gaming, you're supposed to be a few feet back as not everyone sits 12"s away from their TV.

Svid looks fine on my N4 on my little Sony flat screen monitor. I use it for my spare Tivo and the occasional lan party as an extract xbox station. But if you really want better/native resolutions, just get the x2vga or invest in the N5 or was it the N6 that allows you to input component HDTV via the MS HD pack... Not sure the PQ on those particular products, but for the price on those suckers, you could already have gotten yourself the x2vga or in your first steps at an EDTV which supports 480p...

I think he succintly summed it up... in a florid manner too.

"DO NOT BUY THAT LIK SANG GARBAGE!!!!!
I have it...IT SUCKS!"

Get the X2VGA

You will NOT regret it.

You can use it on your SECOND Xbox later too.
