How To Mod Your Xbox Advance Av Kit For
« on: April 20, 2004, 04:38:00 PM »

well i decided one day to e-mail MS about the reason why the xbox doesn't
use dolby pro logic which is supported by every surround sound system on the market well the e-mail response was the xbox can not handle dolby pro logic and is designed not to support it well i decided that after doing research i found that to be not true heres why this is how dolby surround sound and dolby pro logic work and how to make the xbox compatible with both useing this simple stupid mod

what you will need:

1. a MS advance av pack/or hdtv pack

2. a soldering iron

3. a rca av audio plug with wire

4. electrical tape (of course duh)

first lets explain the differances in dolby surround and dolby pro logic surround
the only differance is dolby pro logic takes 3 speakers and makes them stereo
then takes the two rear speakers and turns them into mono when useing dolby surround sound not pro logic all speakers are in high resolution surround sound

well here are the differances lets get on with the mod

first take apart the advance av pack/hdtv pack

once you do this you will notice a small circuite board inside what you are looking for is the plug for the fiber optic cable

now on the advance av pack you will notice a white plug on the circuit board this is what the s-video and the dolby plug run off of
take a pair of scissors and cut the small red wire on this plug to seperate it from the plug then cut the small white wire in the same manner

do not cut the small green wire its power for the circuite board if you cut this kiss your s-video port goodbye

now for hdtv owners once you have taking your hdtv kit apart you will notice a small seperate circuite board that has the dolby fiber optic cable port on it cut the read and white wire off of it..

now heres the really stupid part

just take the red wire and connect it to the wire to the rca av audio plug
then connect the white wire to the ground on the av-audio plug

then solder and tape

drill a new hole on the side of the case for the wire for the rca audio plug to feed threw

put it back to gether and plug the new av audio cable into the port on your dolby digital decoder labeled digital in

then thats it congrats you just changed your xbox into dolby digital with out motherboard modification

give it a try if you have a problem give me a e-mail or post your problem here

thanks peace out everyone

you really should give it a shot it helps because MS decided to use fiberoptic cables and only expensive dolby digital systems around 800.00 work with this and every one who purchased a dolby digital decoder from target walmart or kmart is not considered at all

pretty dumb MS

pretty dumb indeed

Just thought I'd kick in here that buying a quality receiver that supports optical audio input isn't that expensive.  OneCall.com has the Onkyo TXSR501 for $199.60 right now.  This receiver comes equipped with not one but two optical inputs.  I don't know why so many people think that having a quality audio setup for home theatre is so expensive.  It's really quite reasonable and worth every penny, IMHO.

It's Onkyo, and everyone that has experience with AV stuff has heard of them.  No, you're not ging to find their gear in Wal-Mart like a Sony, but if youre trying to get "good" gear Wal-Mart's not the store to be going through anyhow.

Also, when has anyone you know really gotten hoem AV equipment repaired?  TVs have reached the point there they're disposable, and so has pretty much everything else.  After it's out of warranty, people are ready to get a new one anyway.

When someone comes along and corrects your post, try not to get pissy.  Try to learn.

And since when is it an insult to be Canadian?  It was a way of pointing out the inflated dollar amounts in your post could relate to the fact that though Canada uses the same unit of currency, their dollar is worth significantly less than the US dollar, raising apparent prices with no actual change in value.

Hey!  That looks more like four cents to me!  Thoug the strength of the Euro versus the US Dollar recently could be throwing off my perception of your post entirely.
