well the best they can take is s-video, so you won't be getting 480P or better, just 480i. for example this is my xbox playing mgs2 with s-video in on my AIW 9800pro.

and some halo.

composite will look much better then that, so if you want the best image get a vd-z3 or a x2vga etc.

I have yet to see an hdtv card that offers component IN. in fact all the ones I have seen only offer the cable hookup for the Tv signal itself, so they won't even be able to replace things like X2vga etc.

What really irks me is that the AIW's from the 9600 and up, are physically ABLE to take component in (like it can do it in hardware) and some of the cards have an expansion port on the board for just that. but ATI decided not to go and use it  mad.gif

same thing, look at the image they show, NO component connections. so it won't work, thats JUST for getting HDTV signals for TV.

If a vga adapter has accepts component cables doesn't neccessarily mean it's a transcoder (true vga adapter).  There are a few "line doublers" out there that accept component; liksang.com has one, for example.

i actually own a RTV-VEG that i bought a while ago before all of the newer VGA adaptors came out, like the X2VGA and VD-Z3...although in it's own time it was a competitive product, personally i would not recommend it to anyone! i myself am actually thinking about getting a VD-Z3 to replace it. the quality does not look nearly as good as some of the screenshots people have posted of their X2VGA and VD-Z3's in action...furthermore, the RTV-VEG states that it can also play cable television through the unit and into your VGA monitor and it can with no problem except on important one, it doesn't decode broadcast audio. i swear to god, in the manual that came with it states that word for word!! i think the main application of the RTV-VEG is maybe for hooking a VCR or DVD deck upto a VGA monitor which would work because you could plug the audio in with RCA...bottom line, it sucks. and for the price you can do alot better believe me...the VD-Z3 is half of what this thing cost..

I bought one of those VEG's and I was disgusted. The picture was more clear on my TV than it was through my monitor using the VEG. The picture was very blurry, and it was shaky. It was like my Xbox had Parkinsons. I returned it the next day. Right now I'm using an AverMedia tuner card to play my xbox, and it plays somewhat clearly, however my TV's still display a better picture, and thats without any resolution mods or enhanced cables. Bone stock. I'm waiting for a good HDTV tuner card to come out, that will be the shit.
