Xbox Video Jacked!
« on: February 28, 2004, 07:20:00 AM »

I post this in the wrong area so Im reposting it here:

I got a MAJOR video problem, I got a used XBOX from a friend to modify. Which worked fine, I even let it run over night to see if it would die or something.
The kernal was a little strange, becuase when I went to system in the settings menu it did not show a kernal version. When I opened the XBOX up I found the Kernal version on the boards sticker which read 3944.

Anyway, I soldered the two jumpers for TSOP flashing, I plugged the XBOX back up and I get this:

The video is jacked up, I didnt do anything out of the ordinary. Does anyone know what the problem might be?

It is an XBOX 1.0 or 1.1;
and has the conextant chip;
a Thomson DVD and WD HDD

Update, I let the XBOX sit there for 2 minutes and the video went back to normal. SO what could be the problem.

Could have been a static discharge when you were working on the motherboard.  Were you properly grounded?  Wearing a grounding strap or on a grounding mat?

ESD (electrostatic discharge) is the silent killer... it can cause immediate damage, or damage that only shows up after many hours, days, or weeks.

I'm not saying that's what caused this, but it's a possibility.  Especially this time of year.

it is most likely the GPU was overheated

what heatsink/fan is on it?

was this after you left it on all night so it might have been hot?

It wouldn't be because of heat. In the amount of time it took him to solder the points on the m/b for a tsop flash the chip(s) would have cooled off significantly.
