QUOTE (tryinghard @ Feb 23 2004, 10:08 PM)
Hi i hope i have not purchased this in error, i saw the (does not work with PAL standard xbox, but saw a post saying works with chipped xbox, so like a fool i got one...
The problem is unless i use the enigma video switcher it does not display anything(no signal) but when i switch to NTSC mode every thing has lins going across (like a badly turned video, can anyone help me....
Thanks in advance... ohmy.gif

ver 1.0 uk xbox
2.3lite chip

Mine works fine, just received my x2vga today and it's running on a v1.4

Do you have the power button depressed on the x2vga, and dipswitch 4 on to enable VGA?  Have you enabled HD modes in the video section of the MS dashboard?

The lines going across sounds normal - the MS intro isn't in progressive so the x2vga displays it in "480i Easyview" mode, just to let you configure things and start games, actual game content should be in 480p and display normally.  There's a few old games that don't support 480p, there's a list at http://hdtvarcade.com/xboxlist.htm.

That help?

I'm having trouble with game content - menus and the EvoX dashboard are all fine, but when Prince of Persia starts up in the game engine everything is super-slow, PAL game on a PAL box playing off the HD.

Ok we're assuming your x2vga power is on and dipswitch 4 is set correctly.  Is your box modded?  Go into your modded dashboard and then to the MS Dashboard from there (I'm using EvoX which has a link to the original dashboard) and then go into your video settings and it's all there.

Make sure the x2vga is connected and you're viewing successfully with a monitor through the VGA connector and not through composite - if composite is on the VGA circuitry shuts down (toggle dipswitch 4).

If you still can't see it, it sounds like your modchip maybe doesn't support changing to NTSC mode?  Try going through your modchip/bios settings to change the video to NTSC (though mine seems to work fine set to PAL - Xenium chip).

If all of that fails, can you supply more information - exactly what are the dipswitches set to, what cables have you plugged in where, what happens when you boot, mod chip and dashboard details, where do you go in the menus to try and enable HD etc.... we need more information mate  blink.gif

Um, you do know that LCD monitors are specifically mentioned in the x2vga documentation as having problems right? laugh.gif

Anyway:

BINGO!  This is what I've been trying to figure out, if it's only PoP or all games.  I'll go back to using the disc then, it's just so much more convenient playing off the HD sad.gif  Cheers man, you've answered my own question in return biggrin.gif

I just received my x2vga yesterday.  I got to work with no problem but the only thing I noticed is that the MS startup screen does not show does anybody else have this problem? It goes right into EvoX and I am able to play all my games from the hard drive even Prince of Persia.
How do I get the high-resolution, right now I am running at 480p with Prince of Persia.  Or should I ask what determines the resolution?
I am using a 40 inch NEC high-definition LCD monitor I believe it should handle all resolutions. uhh.gif
PS: I am not using PAL I am in the US.

This is a feature - the MS intro and dashboard aren't progressive enabled for some stupid reason, you can hex edit them (see sticky thread at top of forum) but make sure you backup the original for XBox Live.  The x2vga has "480i Easyview" meaning it attempts to translate an interlaced image into progressive at a very basic level, just enough to let it be shown so you can configure settings and enter menus, there's a button on the x2vga next to the power button so you can rotate the image from left to right, kind of like a horizontal hold, so you can view the entire screen for setting up.  It's damn annoying that MS didn't just set these intro screens and their dashboard to auto-detect i/p sad.gif

You can change it in your MS Dashboard under Video settings.  Check your monitor's manual for support resolutions.  LCDs are a bit fickle, unless the resolution matches your display precisely then you're going to be interpolating the image across your screen and you may lose quality.  The HD modes are 720x480p, 1280x720p and 1920x1080i.  It will probably only do the first.

What happens when you try to load it?  I can't play it off the HD with the x2vga either, so I don't know what I can suggest laugh.gif
