Ive been struggling for two days now with the fact that I cant seem to get the MS Dashboard (dvd player) to play 480p movies! There is a patch out there for the old MS dashboard, but I use a new gen mod and have the ability to use xbox live, so my Dashboard has been updated, I tried the patch on the updated version and it crashes out. Ive tried using DVD2Free or whatever its called and that dosent support 480p, neither does XBMC or PLayer they have to use external links to your choicen DVD player. So My question is I have an Xbox version 1.3 4817 Bios from MS and I want to patch the xbox live or another way to do this xboxdash.xbe to allow me to watch movies in 480P support for my HDTV. If anyone has detailed information on where and how please let me know I have been reading the forums and to be truthfully alot of it is over my head Im trying to understand but got lost in the translation somewhere.

First off XBMC plays DVDs in 480p+ perfectly fine, it just doesnt have menus.

Also you can apply the progressive patcher to DVDX2 and use it as a fully functioning 480p DVD player.

Let me explain once again. What Im trying to accomplish. I want my wife/kid to be able to turn on xbox get to Avalaunch menu. Insert rental DVD and have the xbox automatically launch said application (XBMC or Xboxdash) and start the movie in 480p. I have setup avalaunch to do this but once the dvd is inserted it opens XBMC to the My Video / My Music / My Pictures default screen. From there I have to manually drill through the menus to find the DVD and than play it, which I havent been able to get a DVD to play yet! I have been able to play divx or Mpg files stored on my XBOX and thats great in all but Im really looking for DVD movies insert and it plays. Ive spent many hours on IRC in XBMC but it seems if you dont understand something people think your Uber stupid and just ignore you. Hence I have come to these forums asking for help since this is what the forums are for. So please if anyone KNOWS a way to do this or a setting I need to change etc please point me to the information or have detialed step by step guide I and the community would appreciate it. There is a sticky post at the top on how to hex edit the MS dashboard for 480p - there is no longer an autopatcher.  You can use XVI32 - it's free.  Takes just a minutes.  Save the altered file as pxboxdash.xbe, FTP it back to the C drive, and link it in avalaunch enabling autolaunch of DVDs.  You have to have a different name since with the mod disabled a hacked xboxdash won't boot under a stock bios but conveniently there is no conflict between the two files and the other programs they use.  The 480p dash is great for CD, DVD, and working with game saves.

yea download hackman's and do it yourlsef, its easy and it takes 2 mins. The tut is stickied,  i dont know how you could miss it.
