Dvd Playback Video Quality
« on: February 13, 2004, 10:16:00 AM »

I'm not exactly sure about DVD2x but I believe the original DVDx (just region free) was a hacked version of the MS DVD player.  I'd be kind of surprised if DVD2x was anything more.  People in the scene are innovative but I can't imagine anyone porting over a software DVD player (are any of them open source?) just to enable use of the controller.  I'd think the path of least resistance would be just to hack the existing.  I've also never heard anyone state that DVD2x was supperior of the standard dvd player in quality.

Maybe someone else can shed some light.

I agree with ChrisF, the only fundimental difference between the the dvdx2 and the original ms dvd playback is the use of a controller and different menu options; i highly doubt that dvdx2 has it's own dvd firmware that is different from ms.

You might have something there.  I have heard repeatedly that the first Dvdx (a completely different version from dvd2x) was simply a region free MS dvd player - the remote was fully functional.  If there are a bunch of other video and audio options in DVD2x, they may well have ported another software player.  Did you get an NFO file or any info - I've never really bothered to look into it closely since I don't use the Xbox for DVD functionality.  However, there is no known way around the remote issue with Dvd2x.

I haven't used dvdx2 much as i never liked using the controller as the remote. Have you tried comaring the picture quality from dvdx2 with the pq from the latest xbmc/xbmp?
