Also, at gamespot.com, they say in their tech faq's, in halo 2, that it will support 720p; i wonder where they get their info from?  Any thoughts on the subject?

I don't think the bandwidth for online (live) has much to do with whether the game will support high res.  Computer games support a much higher res then 720p, and they play fine over a broad band connection.

The definitive reason for SCII was performance hit.  They support 16x9 at 480p and include black bars on 720p (a native 16x9 resolution) to help the system maintain performance.  It was this or cut 720p.  Most other games have made the decision to cut at the last minute.  I think they know MS wouldn't appreciate an official statement claiming the Xbox hardware incapable of running it smoothly but people involved in the products have come out informally stating they just couldn't get it to run without performance issues.

As for Halo 2, who knows.  MS doesn't exactly have a track record for supporting 16x9 and 720p on it's affiliated titles.  I'd feel comfortable betting against us ever seeing an actual release at 720p.  Never hurts to dream though.

In all honesty, sc2 doesn't look all that good (hell, it's a muli-system game); back grounds and environments are stale and not at all impressive.  I don't understand why they couldn't support 720p in it's native 16:9 widescreen format.  Just take a look at Amped 2 to see how good an xbox game can look in 720p; it's quite amazing.

Given the fact that there could be around 16players on the same screen at one time, I think Bungie's higher priority is to ensure that theres no lag or hic ups when everyone converges in one spot to blow each other up as opposed to supporting 720p for us.

You bring up a good point, about having 4 player split screen for mulitplayer (not 16 per screen like you say, that would be insane, but i know what you ment wink.gif ).  Having 4 player split screen in 720p would be a hellova hard to do.  I wouldn't doubt that online (live) the most possible will be only two player split screen, and 4 player split screen for lan.
It is still amazing to me that halo 1 is able to support 4 player split screen, in multiplayer, as well as it does without hardly any cuts in the graphics.

Wow... I never thought about Halo2 not supporting 4 players for Live until you mentioned it. I guess I've been spoiled by XLink as of late...
