Monitor Bnc+ Xbox Please Help :p
« on: January 16, 2004, 06:11:00 AM »

Hey everyone , sorry if this is common knowledge but ive read things that disagree with one another.
Ok first things first,
Ive got a 21 inch beast monitor that although old was built to take all sorts of inputs when it was new ( it cost over a grand back in its day seemingly - Aydin Controls Ranger 5321), but anyway the point is it has 5 BNC inputs with the usual inputs (RGB H sync, V Sync) labelled, but also has Green/Sync meaning it obviously can take Sync on green, Anyway the retailer www.lik-sang.com has the xbox component cable for sale and under the FaQ for it two people ask if hooking this component cable to they're BNC input monitor with RCA adapters would work, lik sang answer YES in both cases. My question is, will htis work or are Lik Sang just bullshitting to sell some cables?
Thanks in advance for reply
Mike.

Component video is NOT the same as RGB. The box will only output Component or RGB with sync frequency of 15KHz, as standard. Only with a VGA bios will the box output RGB at 31KHz i.e progressive.  The VGA bios does not provide 31KHz Component as far as I am aware.

I would suggest, someone please confirm this, that the dash patch on a non VGA bios box will output Component at 31KHz. Assuming the dash patch does provide 31KHz Component, your monitor is unlikely to accept it.

A VGA input is nothing more than RGB just on 4,5 or 6 wires with varying types of sync.

To my knowledge the only way to get a monitor working with a box is with a patched dash and a VGA bios and of course the right cable.

You should be able to find out from the manual what it will accept.

To answer your question, I am of the opinion that they may be wrong in suggesting it would work.

So it would seem that Lik-Sang are bulshiting in their product  FAQ, its not the official HD pack but a component cable, kinda sucks that a Bios would need installed, ah well I should probably just accept it, although it does still bother me that some places (Lik sang, Xbox linux) talk although it is possible without a bios change... So anybody know what the easiest way for me to do this may be?
I mean someone read the FAQ here and tell me what it leads people to believe? -

The two questions are the same as mine but not even definatley sync on green monitors....
Oh well any help is apprieciated as to how i might hook me Xbox up to this monitor..
Could the Xbox be tricked into outputing RGB instead of component when a Component cable is hooked up to it??
P.S i have a PAL Xbox with Alladdin Advance Modchip (256kb) and latest EvoX bios... Standard MS Dash
Help again apprieciated
Mike.
