Assuming that I can have linux on xbox running, how can I attach a microphone on it so I can run things like voip ?

The possibility I have seen so far :

1. a USB microphone or may be external sound system
2. the one that is 'designed' for Xbox for karaoke(comes with a software)

Both option is rather expensive and dedicated and I am wondering if there is other options like making a cable to directly interface with the motherboard or may be the AVIP interface such that I can plug any PC microphone.
