Problems With Dolby Digital Under Evox
« on: January 17, 2004, 04:44:00 PM »

I'm having the sam problem, intermittant sound/scratchy when trying to play dolby digital games.  I though it was my monster cables, exchanged them for new monster.  Still having same problem, went and bought MS's HD pack...same problem.

I don't know if it works fine in ms dash as evox loads up regardless,  but when I use the dvd player the surround sound is fine...so not sure what gives.

did you find a solution?

Ok, upgraded my evox version, still having the same problem.
It's either my xbox or bios

would my bios be the likely suspect?
I have to have a 1mb bios flashed as I'm no using a chip, I have tsop, and installed bios directly to motherboard.

Do I have to unsolder to put another bios on? or can I flash new bios to it as is? Anybody have any suggestions for a good 1mb bios that will ensure that i get my
Surround sound working.

Found the Problem

Issue: I have the right AV pack and Dolby Digital is enabled, but I get no sound or broken sound. If I disable Dolby Digital or use the RCA audio outputs instead of the optical, everything sounds OK.

Answer:
There was a manufacturing defect with some Xbox audio chips. MS is in the process of investigating this. If you are having the above problem, call Xbox technical support at 1-800-4MY-XBOX.

there are many posts about it. Problem is, if I want to fix it I have to send it into MS and they repair it for $90.00, unfortunately I voided my warranty when I opened up my xbox, and I don't think they'd enjoy the modificatios i've made to it.

Is there no other solution for this problem than sending it to MS?

Is it not possible to fix it yourself( or a handy friend)?

$90 will almost buy a new Xbox with the price drop. No way I'd pay MS $90 to fix this. Kinda surprised this isn't a free fix (like an auto recall).
