Question About Grounds On Output Modifications....
« on: January 11, 2004, 12:37:00 PM »

Ok, I plan to modify the ouput of my xbox so that I will have all available outputs for a HDTV and an Audio Receiver, kind of like spillage's on his topic:

http://forums.xbox-s...T&f=60&t=117473

While I am waiting for his tutorials to come out(as it says in the forum of his), I found a word document that has what each pin in the AVIP connector stands for, and also a table to show you which cables to connect to which pin....I will copy it to here.

Pin           Description
1              Audio Right
2              Audio Right GND
3              SP-DIF Digital Audio
4              V-Sync (VGA Mode)
5              Mode GND
6              Mode GND
7              Mode GND
8              GND
9              Variable
10            Pin 9 GND
11            Variable
12            Pin 11 GND
13            Vcc
14            Audio Left
15            Audio Left
16            H Sync (VGA Mode)
17            Mode Select 1
18            Mode Select 2
19            Mode Select 3
20            +12v
21            Pin 22 GND
22            Variable
23            Pin 24 GND
24            Variable

17  18  19   Mode                           24  22  11  9
-     -     X    NTSC Mono                  V    C    Y   -
-     X    X    Component                  -    Pr    Y  Pb
X    -     -     NTSC Stereo                V    C    Y   -

V = Composite Video
S = Composite Sync
C = S-video Chroma
Y = S-video Luma
X= GND

I am planning to connect coaxial audio, toslink audio, standard(stereo) audio, composite video, s-video, and component video up. But when I do this, certain modes will be enabled, and it will give the options of digital audio features and/or high definition video features in the dash.

Now, here is my question:
Will those options in the dash be there if it is not connected to my tv through that connection, i.e. my component connectors on my box will not be hooked up to my tv, rather my composite would be, will the high-definition options still be enabled in the dashboard?

First off, I don't think those are the right pinouts...I've seen three or four different versions of the pinouts on the net. But to answer your question, you will need three spst switches (might be able to use some other setup) to control the modes, or you won't get it to work. If you have the mode set for, say, composite video, you won't neccessarily get digital audio.
