yep, home projectors are fantastic,
I borrowed one for a couple of months, a cheapo 850 lumens LCD epson one, playing dvd's, the dark colours were a bit crap and not so good contrast,
borrowing a propper screen rather than just onto the wallpaper solved that though,
IMHO getting a projector is far more useful and practical than those crappy huge rear projection tellies,
if you can get a DLP projector, those are fantastic, excellent contrast and the dark colours are more distinct rather than more of a blob like the cheap LCD ones, they do have noticeable 'pixellation' though

in summary, LCD = 600 quid (uk) - not bad, nice smooth picture, little bit of smudging
DLP = 1000 quid UK - excellent, bright and nice contrast, bit pixelly

i was looking at this on ebay and thought it matches every thing you guys said

high resolution
high lumens

and at 2000 hours bulb life

i will use it no more then 4 hours(more on weekends, less on weekdays) a day thats 500 days(2.5 years), so im thinking thats a good deal...IMO way better then getting a HDTV..i think?

ph34r.gif thanks....i just checked my math blink.gif  i dont know what i was thinking unsure.gif

but that really makes a diff, i never knew how much the bulbs cost.. $350-$500 is alot for a bulb!

now i gotta go and ask, and do some research on the diff between LCD and CRT projectors... i didnt know there were so many diff options on these things..

i just wanna lay up in my room on my leather glider in my bedroom with my beer inbetween my legs, playing video games, and loving what my hard work has paid for.

You can get the X1 DLP projector (don't buy LCD) for right around $1000 - maybe a bit less.  A ton of people have reported great gaming and home theater success.

CRT projectors provide unquestionably the best picture quality but there is additional need for ambient light control vs. a DLP projector.

Someone just asked this the other day and this thread is really informative as it relates specifically to the Xbox and gaming - it goes into DLP,CRT, and LCD.

Also the CRT projector forum at www.avsforum.com is a great resource for researching these units.  The sticky tab at the top contains a link to a PDF primer on CRTs.

I just started looking at these the other day.  You can get some incredible deals on used units with lots of life left as corporations and museums have sold theirs off in favor of newer technology (not necessarily better though).
