Yeah you need something, either a receiver in a home theater set up, or a card in your computer if thats how you listen to your XBox speakers (thatd be fun to set up) to decode the DD or DTS signal from the XBox. Those speakers would plug in to either the receiver or the card (like one of those Sound Blaster Audigy 5.1 cards).

i think you may be a little confused about RMS- it stands for root mean square and is used to give single values for varying currents, powers or voltages for example ac mains voltage

its basically (simplistically) an average value for the power output

Ive got about 15k in audio equipment and dont regret buying any of it. Saving Private Ryan at the beach just reminds me that its all worth it. The best thing I have added to my system lately is the xbox.. neither would be the same without eachother!

i got onkyo 6.1 channel dts/dolby digital jamo front speakers wharfadale surrounds mission centre channel n jamo rear centre channle ..xbox never sound awesome b4..

I can't imagine not watching movies or playing Xbox without DD (and of course DTS when available; if you don't think DTS puts DD to shame, you're messed up in the head! --> of course this doesn't apply to Xbox though). From another point of view, my brother finally got a good 5.1 system, and it seems like everytime I talk to him he's raving about how sweet Xbox is with surround sound.
