Screen Problems

Can anyone offer any solutions to my screen problems.
I have a NTSC X-Box over here in the UK with my PAL television.  Unfortunately whenever I try to hook my American X-Box to my British television via a scart or tv/video cable, the picture rolls all over the place.
The only time this hasn't happened is on a friend's system when the X-Box has been connected through his video recorder with the three pin cable link-up.
Does anyone know of a way around this?
