Made A Vga Cable....

Hi all,
I've made a VGA cable for my xbox, which is the same as the guide found on the xbox-linux homepage (link). I used the official xbox 'Advanced SCART cable' purchased here in the UK (they do not sell the HDTV pack here). I've changed my eeprom to NTSC, and booted into the MS dashboard, but cannot see any HDTV options in the settings/video menu.

The only reason i can think that would cause this, is if my cable is not in the right 'mode'. On the xbox-linux site, it says that pins #9 and 13 of the AVIP connector tell the xbox what type of cable you have, depending on what 9 & 13 are connected to. If anyone could tell me what pins need to be connected for HDTV that would help loads smile.gif

Any other ideas welcome
Thanks
L33

Good luck trying to figure out how to make a HD cable out of a scart cable.  The only way your going to get the options for higher res in the ms dash is by moding a HD cable, perferably the ms HD pack.

So, by leaving pin 11 and 9 unattached from eachother, you were able to access the higher res settings in the ms dash (720p and 1080i) with a regular scart cable?  I know that by unsoldering wire from pin 11 and resolder it to pin 9 sets the ms hd pack to vga (gog) mode, and that leaving pin 11 and 9 utouched allowed for highdef mode, but i did not think this applied to a non hd cable.

My mistake, i meant pin 11 - 12, but other than that what you've said is correct. The XBOX is able to tell what type of cable you have plugged in depending which points out of 9, 10, 11, 12, 13 & 14 are connected to eachother.
To enable VGA/HDTV for high-res modes, pin 9 needs to be connected to 10, and pin 13 to 14, 11 and 12 need to be unconnected.
If 9-10, 11-12, and 13-14 are connected the it enables RGB scart (non-HDTV/high res). I dont know if U.S television sets support RGB scart, i've never owned or used one, but for some reason using RGB scart gives a much clearer picture on my UK tv set when my xbox is set in NTSC eeprom mode (as opposed to composite).
I'll have a poke around and see if i can find which pins need to be connected to enable the other output modes (composite and RF), if I find anything i'll knock up a quick tutorial smile.gif
