Remember that progressive images are no better than interlaced ones until something in the field or frame moves. There is often a brightness increase but two monitors displaying the same static image, one progessive and one interlaced, you would see not difference. Your monitor being so large is I guess designed for high graphics for CAD etc so naturally is best suited to XGA onwards. Running little ol' VGA ie 640x480p will give you lines just as it does on everyone elses TV.
