Trying To Get High Definition Started

sad.gif Unfortunatly, when you go to a store, most salespeople assume that the component inputs support all those modes, when I'd say less than 50% support all of them (although more than 50% do support 480i).

Now to hack your XBOX you need to make it so your dashboard is progressive scan (i.e. 480p).  It's not MS's fault your TV doesn't support 480i on the HD inputs.  The app you are looking for is progpatcher (I think...I haven't used it myself).

Lastly, a few games (I think) don't support 480p and only support 480i.  You won't be able to play those either without patching them.  And I don't think the patching app works on all the games.

You can also search this forum for more advice, as some other people have had the same problem as you.

If the patcher doesn't work (and sometimes it doesn't with the new dashes i.e. Live 2.0) follow the instructions linked in my signature.  Remember that you should maintain the original dash untouched since the Xbox will not boot the patched dash without a hacked bios (i.e. modchip off - which you need for Xbox Live).  To do this just name the patched dash pxboxdash.xbe and link it in Evox as a menu item as well as the default DVD player if you want progressive scan dvd's too.  The CD player mode will also default to 480p now and any settings changes you make in the 480p dash will be mirrored in the original 480i dash (i.e. change to or from widescreen).  This is good since neither dash interferes with the other and they play nice.

Make a copy of your dash file and name one like progressive.xbe or pdash.xbe then hex edit the file to enable 480p, then load it to you HDD and then edit a line on your EVox to launch it or edit a bios to load that file when that haxed bios is enabled and flash it on your chip on one of your free banks.

The dash is always in 480i (you can patch it but it won't work on Live or boot with the chip off - so you'll need to keep the original as is and plan on accessing it from a 480i input if you need to go there with the chip off).

Once you hook an HD cable set up to the Xbox the 480p, 720p, and 1080i options are in the video settings (ironically in the 480i dash).  Any games (or Evox or whatever) will run in the highest mode they can accomodate.

Maybe you only need to access the dash once in a while and can deal with the 480i.  Maybe you should have a progressive scan DVD player and hook it up to the progressive only ports (if that is your problem) and put the Xbox on the DVD port.  You'll have to figure out your own situation and decide how best to handle it.

QUOTE (black knight @ Dec 29 2003, 07:01 PM)
I just got the xbox high definition av package, and I can't get my TV to recognize the connection.  When I hook up the normal AV cables, all is OK.  When I hook up the high definition adapter, my TV says I must connect a valid video format.  I have a 32" Zenith HDTV model # D32D51.

Yeah, your TV needs to support 480i on the same input as 480p, 720p, and 1080i to be fully XBOX compatible.  There are hacks/patches etc. to try and deal with this problem.

Also, should I have the option to change to 720p, 480p, ect. in the MS dash, even if I don't have the HD adapter kit?  Right now, I don't have that option.  Do i need this patch that I have read about to be able to enable this setting?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

No, you don't get that option unless you connect the HDTV connection pack.  The XBOX detects it and adds that option screen.
