double check to make sure no one changed your settings on you in the dashboard, make sure all your cables are tight from the xbox to the receiver, and if all else fails, try someone elses av pack to see if maybe yours died

But maybe i was not making myself clear.
5.1 playback does work if i use it for playback of dvd's, just not for games.
if 5.1 is turned on in the dash then i get no sound in games. i have to set it to stereo!
strange huh

it has me stumbled.

well...this is a longshot here...but some games dont support 5.1 surround sound. im sure at least one of the games you have does, but it was just a thought, check the backs of your game boxes. if all else fails, call those dumb fujuckers at m$

did you enable dts? your decoder might not decode dts..make sure its dolby surround. thats about all i can think of.
i use a soundblaster audigy 2 platinum to get my 5.1 but since it only decodes dolby surround, thats the only track i can get. when i had dts turned on i got no sound. try it out.

my xbox came like that no DD in games just DVD's and I sent my xbox to ms and they fixed it its nothing with your set up its your xbox ......i read something about faulty pcm chips or something along those lines
