Any Advantage To Play In Widescreen?

Well it's up to you.  When someone asks about widescreen, I assume they have a native widescreen display, which apparently you don't. blink.gif In which case, I wouldn't play in widescreen mode.

Lewdog, you don't actually havea a widescreen TV then?  It's a regular TV that has the 16:9 pulldown(usually used for DVD's).  I have the same option on my 27" flat screen toshiba and there is no point in using 16:9 in games.  Unless you have a huge TV, you are just making your screen smaller than it has to be.  I personally only like video games on widescreen TV's if they are single player.  It seems, at least to me, that when you break up to screen for multi-player, it is actually somtimes TOO wide for me.  That's just my opinion though.  So just stick with 4:3 for a regular TV and if you have an actual widescreen TV, then use the Xbox in widescreen mode.

To make this question even easier try this...look at your browser the way it is now and then shrink it down to two thirds of that size...which way do you like it better?

wrong. it is only smaller if you have a 4:3 TV, widescreen was designed for 16:9 aspect ratio, which is best enjoyed on a widescreen TV smile.gif

as for projectors, you have to get a HDTV 16:9 projector to see it correctly..

the only adavantage of widescreen on a 16:9 is getting to see the WHOLE frames of DVD movies, as they are mostly 16:9 native  smile.gif  unsure.gif

EDIT: AH.. I see your talking about lewdogs sitituation.. NVM  biggrin.gif

So in summary

If you have a widescreen (16:9) display (projector, CRT, whatever) you should run your XBOX in widescreen.

If you don't have a widescreen, you're probably better off not running in widescreen.

Well....thats pretty obvious......  wink.gif

The question is;  Is it worth 1000 Euros to get a new 32 inch widescreen tv when less than half the games really supports 16:9.........   unsure.gif

I thought so too, but this thread was created because someone asked that very question, so I guess it's not obvious to everyone.

I would say if you also watch DVDs or any HDTV content, the answer would be yes.

I don't think so.  I would rather buy a really nice normal flat screen for cheaper.  Either that or I would wait til more HDTV stations are available.  I would just get a flat screen with component vid input and buy the M$ pack or monster cables.

Tried my box at a friend with a 32 inch wide 100 hz tv.  Damn.  Real nice.  cool.gif
I like to watch movies as well so..

But a flat 28 inch LCD is like super expensive, right? Must be more expensive than a 1000 Euros.

Well if you're interested in going the LCD route try looking into a LCD rear projection tv.  They're larger in overall size than the normal LCD monitors but they're much cheaper.  Look into the Sony ones.  They range from $3000-4000 USD for 50"-60".

You should be able to see more of the game for the ones that actually support widescreen.

You can use the link in my sig. to see which games support 16x9.

Well first, we are assuming you have a 16:9 widescreen TV so the picture isn't smaller.

And the reason is, you get more "stuff" or information on your screen.  For example in a driving game your view would be wider.  In a fighting game you characters have more room to work in.  In a first person shooter, you can see more to your sides, get it?  There are more pixels, therefor more information.  You get to see more of the game.

For games that don't support 16:9 in widescreen, all you are doing is stretching the image, which doesn't actually show you anything more and just makes things look short and fat.

We also assume like all intelligent people, you perfer movies (DVDs, etc.) in widescreen format because you get to see all of the movie.  If you prefer fullscreen, and like missing 1/3 of the movie, I guess that's your choice.  biggrin.gif

As I get the black bars in 16:9, which I do not get in 4:3 - I actually have more (useful - i.e. content filled) pixels in 4:3, or dont't I? ( My projector is a 4:3 projector).

no its like you have your widescreen.. and then you zoom in on the middle 2/3's of it when in 4:3
