No you couldnt, unless your TV takes analog signals. The DVI converter doesn't change the signal, but rather the analog pin positions. In a DVI connector, the analog pins used for this purpose are those surrounding the "-" sign pin (the wide pin).

This was already covered in this thread

To be more specific, your computer's DVI port outputs both VGA and DVI.  That cable it came with just grabs the VGA and signal and makes it into a standard VGA plug to connect to old non-DVI monitors.  You're talking $300 to get an adapter to convert a VGA signal to DVI.

You are the only person I know of that's seen even a rumor of it actually happening.  I would assume that if it is actually under development there is no publically released ETA.  Personally, most TVs have only one and more often none DVI ports (some newer ones have a couple but let's face it, these are generally reserved for HDTV, DVD, and possibly HTPC sources rather than an Xbox) I can't imagine there's anything more than a sliver of demand for this item - most of us never thought there was any chance of seeing one produced.  Have to wait and see but I wouldn't hold your breath.

I think I am right in saying that the DVI 1.0 standard includes analogue video in its protocol. Analogue video is no step up of course. I believe that I am also right in saying that DVI digital video requires handshaking. Something the XBOX can't do, me thinks.

wink.gif In the meantime, my set only has one DVI connection which is reserved for the HD DTivo. I guess when a receiver with DVI switching capability comes out below $500, then thats when I can take advantage of this...  laugh.gif

Hiya,
would gladly put my hand up for a set of DVI cables from Xbox thro my projector/home theatre, actually thought they would've held off with DVI until the fabled Xbox2, but would gladly have them runnin thro the current xbox.
With the newer games pushing the HDTV envelope, it would make a great improvement.  Plz keep us updated on this one.
Cheers,

QUOTE (tank27 @ Apr 5 2004, 04:14 PM)
i just need a way to watch my xbox on my hdtv with both component slots already taken up

External switcher - I think Pelican makes one that a lot of people have been happy with (including those on AVSforum who are typically more discriminating than your average xbox-scene.com poster).

If you have a decent HT product with good bandwidth video switching you can send YPb and YPr through 'S' Video inputs and Y through composite. So if you had a receiver with 8 video inputs you can use three of them for HDTV and the rest as normal. Make sure Y is on composite as most displays have the composite and luminance sharing connections. If you are running @ 15KHz any video switcher will do, if you are running at 31KHz something a lot better would more preferable, such as 10MHz.

There is a DVI xbox cable for the Japanese Xbox.  Not sure if it will work on North American Xboxes.

From what I've been told, XBox does not have a digital video output. Therefore, the only way to get DVI would be to use a VGA->DVI cable from a VGA adapter. By then you're video would probably look worse than component.
