Problem With New Xbox In Car Installation

Before you do anything...run an extension cord from your garage into your car to bypass the inverter.  Plug the XBOX into the extension cord and verify the problem goes away.

That sucks man.  I had not heard of this problem but of course don't have the cool setup you do.  I almost opted for a rear entertainment center in my MDX though for the sole purpose of having an XBOX in it (I was going to try and get the license plate MDXBOX he he), and now maybe I'm glad I didn't.

If you find an inverter that solves the problem post it here, as I think that's important info.  I'll also ask around with my car stereo friends and see if they have any suggestions.

Seems weird as the power supply should be well isolated from the video stuff.  I wonder if shoving a big cap somewhere would help.

ok this may or may not help you, but here goes...

My sister has a mini dvd player, on the cord there is this "clip" looking thing that resmbles a magnet. I always wondered what it was, until I took it off the cigarette lighter adapter and got a fuzzy picture. When I put it back on, everything was fine.

I had the exact same problem when i installed my xbox in my car. All i had to do was connect a small wire from the ground side of the video connecter to the case of the unit it pluged into. i have heard that grounding the motherboard of the xbox that will achieve the same effect. Just run a wire from one of the screws inside the xbox ( like the one you grounded your chip to) to the chasi of the car. I havent tried doing it this way but that is what alot of people do when they install computers in thier cars.

One more thing having the inverter next to the xbox inst causing the problem mine sits right next to it and i nave no problems now.

Go the the install forum and they'll help you out and suggest the invertor to use to get rid of the waveyness.. I've seen this problem before and it was solved by exchanging the invertor for a different one.-

You could also invest in one of the 12v > ATX type power supplies that the car-pc people use wink.gif

Problem Solved.

Without a doubt the Pure Sine Wave Inverter I referenced in my message above fixed the problem.  Thanks to everyone who took time to read this and especially those who replied.  Now if I could just solve the grounding problem with my xbox in general life would be good.  Sometimes it boots sometimes it doesnt, give it alittle shake and it will usually do the opposite of what it did the last time.  My electronics guru (guy who did the mod) and I will tackle this this weekend.
