Will A Rgb Cable Make My Xbox Display In Colour?
« on: November 23, 2003, 10:56:00 AM »

Yes, but only if your TV support RGB. The vast majority of SCART equipped TV's do, but there are exceptions.

Also note that if your TV has more than one SCART connector, RGB is usually only supported in one of them, while the other(s) support S-Video instead. Most TV's autoswitch to RGB mode when they detect an RGB signal, but on some TV's you'll need to manually select RGB on the remote.

But why on earth aren't you using RGB already ? The image quality is 10X better than that crap composite video cable that came with your X-Box. If your PC used composite video rather than RGB you probably wouldn't be able to read this text at all...

Many thanks for your replie.

After going out today and buying a joytech digital av cable which has rgb I can now have my xbox running in ntsc mode with colour.

Now my next problem, when using the rgb cable the colours on the tv look a little washed out and also the text looks a little blurry.

Could this be because my TV is not that good with rgb???

Yea, I've come across a few TV's in the past that dont look very good using RGB leads (Washed out colours being the most common), so looks like you need a new TV...

Just to add I have now changed my xbox back to pal mode still with the rgb cable and the pictures is a lot sharper than when my xbox is in ntsc mode with rgb.

Would this be because my tv is not very good with 60Hz? Or maybe the cable is not very good with 60Hz or Not designed for use @ 60Hz?

Also would a xbox rgb cable brought from say the US be any different from a xbox rgb cable in the UK???

If you're not happy with the picture quality then either you have a crap RGB cable or a crap TV. If your NTSC DVD's now display in color (and didn't before) then everything is correctly connected/configured.

An RGB cable that works fine in 50hz will work equally well for 60hz. The problem is most likely your TV.

They don't have SCART connectors in the US. Nor do US consumer TV's support RGB (Arcade monitors and some front projectors being the exception). If you suspect the cable to be faulty, try the official MS RGB SCART cable. It's expensive, but high quality.
