The only reason I would use my Xbox is because I'm looking for an all digital connection.

I wouldn't trust a built-in.  Even if it offered a real digital connection I doubt the quality would be as high as other players available without dropping large cash.  Still I sincerely doubt it's not hitting analog somewhere.

With only 1 DVI port you have to figure out which component will get the best use from it.  I'm thinking your HD cable box would be the best bet since many DVD players send very nice signals through component.  Perhaps a case could be made if you are using one of the newer players that upconvert to 1080i/720p from 480p but once again we talking about a player that will significantly exceed the specs of a built-in unit.

My set also only has a single DVI.  Hopefully quality switch boxes will be available some day as more and more of us face this issue but right now I'd leave the DVD to component and save the true HD sources for DVI.

I currently own the 46W500 model projection TV and the TV has a built
in DVD player that is internally connected to the TV. What internal
connection does the DVD player have to the TV? Is it connected to the
TV
through a DVI-HDTV interface, a component connection, or something
else?
Also does the DVD player have progressive scan support. Your help is
greatly appreciated.

What's really sad about this is, well, customer service can't handle these questions! I'm frickin' 16 years old and it's hard for me to get a job at bestbuy or circuit city, and these bozos have jobs that pay anywhere from $15-20 per hour. Sorry if I have offended anyone, but these people told me to contact an "operation specialist".

I can almost gaurantee that the DVD player included in the Hitatchi combo is not DVI. DVD DVI DVD Players are pretty daym expensive right now. Starting at least $300+ maybe a little cheaper if you bargain shop. Last I checked a few months ago there were only a small handfull of DVI DVD Players. It's most likely just a regular progressive scan dvd player included in the combo.

DVI right now is just like SVideo a few years ago. Most sets I've seen only have 1 DVI if any at all. I'm sure it will take some time until the masses have more than one DVI input per set. The battle remains between firewire and DVI for the next high def standard. I say just wait or invest your money in a trully high end receiver. I'm sure theres some out there that have DVI switching capabilities...

I thought current projection TVs were LCD projection not CRT?

Most rear projection TVs are still CRT based.  There are newer ones that are LCD, DLP, and LCoS but they are in the minority.

Also, you only mention "projection" so maybe you mean front projection.  There are some (expensive/high quality) front projectors that are CRT based as well.  Runco comes to mind.  These are easliy identified by the 3 large color guns or lenses on the front of the projector.  Most front projectors, however, are either LCD or DLP.
