I'm reading and reading and reading. Newbie to the XBox with v1.1. Haven't even cracked the box open. But I like to make plans before digging into anything.
Can I get anytype of OS to display at 1920x1080 @ 60hz with the built-in GF3MX? Why? Cause my XBox is connected to my Mits 55" widescreen HDTV. And setting up an OS for browsing, chatting, etc (anything to allow the gf online while I program on my desktop).
The Mits doesn't support 720p, but will support 480p (704x480). So is that another option?
Basically, my goal is to have a crystal-clear image on the HDTV in 16:8 widescreen. I currently have a VGA-to-Component adapter on the home computer to output 1920x1080 @ 60hz on my GF4. Windows XP (and W2K) allows you to set custom display sizes.
Can this be achieved in one OS or another for the XBox? We know card (GF3MX) is able to do so, hence the 1080i titles that are out there.
I'm also still not too clear of what OS options are out there for the XBox. My goal? To have a cool-looking Dashboard like I've seen posted on this forum on my XBox start, have a webbrowser (Netscape 7.0/6.0 on Linux? Or IE on some stripped down W2K kernel?), AIM, YIM, ICQ, etc. Pluses would be Linux with a C or Bash shell so I could code some nifty things like SSH, telnet, pine, etc.
I'm aware the last paragraph above kinda belongs in the Newbie forum. But I thought my advanced question of the video options and OS belonged here, with a short objective description that I am trying to accomplish (last paragraph).
Thanks in advance! And my God, I had no idea of the XBox underground out there!
