I Want Surround Sound For My Xbox
« on: November 01, 2003, 09:34:00 PM »

i THINK, but not sure, that thwe monster gaming speakers are a plug n play where u just hook ur digital optical cable into the speakers and play away in REAL 5.1 gaming, but u'd have to check it out on the website: http://monstercable....nstergame/xbox/

and there is another set, again not sure if no reciever is needed, but they are a special set from klipsch designed for xbox and ps2 ithink, and they got a website , prolly like www.klipsch.com com or something, dunno, gotta check it out.....
hope this helps

Yeah I agree with Dave, youll want some wiring which will conduct the best signal, without alot of loss.  Get the gold plated tips on your cables if your getting RCA cables.  I tin all the wire going into my actual speakers as well.  Definately you should invest in a good receiver.  Ive been using them in my sound system for almost ten years, and the ability to change from different digital formats is great, as some games are DTS, 5.1, 6.1, THX, etc, and with a nice receiver, you can hear them all.  I personally stick with Onkyo, they are a higher end, but worth the price.  Ive also heard that you can find good deals on receivers and speakers at wal-mart; if you go that route, just remember you get what you pay for.

To hell with the sets! Invest in a real reciever and speakers. Besides with things like ebay these days you can get a fat deal. just remember one thing. the keys to running a good stereo system is two things. the second is have decent speakers (decent not great) and the first is have good cables (wiring)

I agree, just get a real A/V system.  Sam's Club and Costo usually have one between $200 and $300 that includes the surround amp and speakers (and sometimes a cheap DVD player).

Haha, based on what?

I'm not going to sit here and defend Sony but I'm curious to see why you think that. Sony car audio sucks if that's what you're talking about. But their home theater works perfect for me.

and aboit 100% of the fools runing sony explod amps and subs in their car say the same thing as you...it works for me...sounds good to me...sorry NO! it's crap!

i'm just anti-sony, you never ever EVER get your money's worth with them.

I agree with you on the car audio on sony ends. It totally blows. I'm all about Audiobahn when it comes to car stereos. But, you can think what you wish for home theater because I'm sure that you're still playing on just mono sound from your TV's speakers.  biggrin.gif

I'm using the following speakers for games and computer, bought two sets smile.gif

http://store.yahoo.c...z51spandsu.html

They sound alright, certainly nothing like these 1200$ sets I bet, but sure a step up from what I was using, mono sound from my TV.  No joke.  wink.gif

Sounds good for music and I get surround sound, like when I play gamecube and I'm in Tony Hawk or Metroid, you can hear things behind you and besides you and stuff, it's nice.  Sounds like it might give you what you want, it did for me.

Don't waste your time on that monster game sytem. It doesn't come with a decoder so unless you want matrixed 2 chanel sound then get a real system with a real reciever. A couple things to remember is to spend the most money on your speakers. Also don't waste your time on high priced cable. Just look for some good 14 or 16 gauge cable with high copper content. If you don't want to spend alot of money just head down to radioshack and buy yourself a RCA system. For the price RCA has some good setups. I personally recomend this system http://www.onkyousa....ass=Systems&p=i. The have the same system with a progressive scan dvd player but you can save money by getting the dvd player somewhere else.

I already recommended those but apparently my link didn't work.  dry.gif

I just had to add my two cents.  I speak from experience when I say that sony speakers and receivers are crap.  You can get a GOOD system for 300 bucks.  Yamaha is my preferred receiver.  They have AWESOME sound.  All I can really say is look around.  Read.  Learn.  Check the specs.  When looking at receivers, check THD (Total Harmonic Distortion).  You want a smaller number.  Something like .08% is good.  Sony is typically .8 or .9% <-- this is a waaayyy bigger number and you can hear it.  Here is an excellent site for anything hometheater.  Check it out.

I must say that Sony is total shit in car audio. Ok, they suck.

But in Home Audio they arent the best out there, but they are in no way shit. They have some pretty nice products out. I have a sony setup, yes its not the best, but I got it for a REALLY GOOD price.

If it has a decoder, it should not require 6 connections.

Doesn't it have a digital optical in port?  If not, yes you should scrap it for something that does.
