Hey

I have a PAL box with dongle and region free patched dashboard. Region 2 (europe) dvds works perfectly and smooth but region 1 movies seems to be a little "choppy". Not much, but noticable. Ive tried to enable/disable Pal-60 with no luck.

Any ideas?

I dont believe the region free patch enables a 3.58Mhz carrier. Ie the machine is running pseudo PAL or half way converted PAL. Get yourself Enigmah video switcher, this will cure the problem. You need to be running a chipped or modded TSOP box to run this.

ok, thanks, will try it.

With Enigmah, do I still need the region free patch?

Also, if your tv doesn't support ntsc, and you switch your xbox to pal, you won't get any picture.

yes but it can easily be fixed, blindly, by booting with the same disc you switched it with.

and yes with the enigma, youll still need the region free patch, since it patches the video mode, not the dvd kit region. Also have you tried DVDx2.0? Thats what I use to watch PAL movies on my NTSC machine, but I have LiVE and cant patch my dashboard.

Good luck!

You can patch your dashboard and still switch off your modchip to play on live.  All you have to do is apply the patch the xboxdash.xbe, then after the patch is applied call it something else like yboxdash.xbe.  Then put back the original xboxdash.xbe so the xbox can boot off it without the modchip on.  Just make sure your evox.ini is set up correctly so everything is directed to the right place. wink.gif

I've done the simple method using video selector boot disc

region 1 discs - use the boot disc to set to ntsc
region 2 discs - use the boot disc to set to PAL

I've got the xbe in my evox.ini menu, so I just select PAL or NTSC, reboot and then play the dvd

i've found that NTSC (region1) discs are choppy in PAL mode,
and PAL (region 2) discs are choppy in NTSC mode

i also found that PAL games often dont work if the xbox is left in NTSC mode :-)

How then do you get an ntsc only tv to recognize a the xbox for dvd playback if it is switched to pal?  When  i do this my tv picture is all scrambled.  Do i need to switch it to pal 60hz somehow?   And how do i do this?  Because i am experiencing the same problem when trying to watch a pal region 2 dvd on my factory ntsc xbox via an ntsc interlace only tv.

I'm not saying you can run the region free patched dashboard while the modchip is off so you can play on live, what i'm saying, is, you can patch the ms dash so you can watch region free dvd's via the ms dash with the remote WITH the modchip on.  If you change anything on the original bios, you cannot run it with the modchip off.  That's why you leave the original xboxdash.xbe alone, so the original bios will recognize it. wink.gif

hmm... my tv supports both pal and ntsc. Have no problem with the tv. Using an RGB av cable too (if that has anything to do with anything...)

Sorry cant help you..    sad.gif

bahhhh, just use DVDx2, will work perfectly for EVERYONE!

dvdx2 is a great app but it doesnt solve the initial problem..

But it is solved thanks to Enigmah.
