The digital output from the XBOX is encoded data and therefore meaningless. You cannot just convert it to analogue. A Dolby Digital bitsream output is a complex compression algorithym that needs to 'decoded' by Dolby Digital hardware prior to conversion to analogue.

The reason I asked is that the Extigy can do it in standalone mode, but it also has a lot of other features that I wouldn't need. I'm just kind surprised that someone hasn't made a standalone Dolby Digital decoder that does nothing else at a cheaper cost smile.gif

I bought the cheap speakers for my PC originally, which had analog outputs, but have ended up using headphones more often than not (better surround effect in games, when it matters smile.gif) so I'd like to put my old ones to good use smile.gif

What are calling cheap? Acoustic Energy make a kick ass speaker package that's very small, very cool, with a seperate little DD,DTS,DPL decoder. It's called the Aego P5 £600

Dolby digital decoders do exist but may be hard to find since most A/V receivers have them built-in.   Are you looking for something like thiis?

decoders are easy to find. As your in the u.k, look in your local cash convertors type store. i pick up a 2nd hand yamaha decoder for £35. bargain. i dont use it now as i have a yamaha rx-v630 a/v amp, but its still being used elsewhere:)
