Some monitors support 'Sync-on-Green', which allows them to use a VGA signal with the sync information contained on the 'Green' signal, along with the green color information too, which is why you can make a VGA cable for some monitors, and not have to use the LM1881N chip. However, not all monitors support this feature.

NOTE: I do however recommend using the chip anyway, because then your cable will be compatible with ALL VGA monitors.  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

I first tried a sync on green circut instead of using the chip but it didn't work.
