An MS XBox dashboard is just the files on the C partition. Yes, I think all C partitions with the same version of the MS XBox Dashboard are identical. However, your XBox and (your friend's?) are currently modded.
So, ya, you should be able to update your dash by simply copying his updated dash files to your XBox. Be careful to make sure you're copying the right files. If you install his modded files to your box and your soft mod isn't setup the same you could run into problems. Just make sure you don't touch your E partition AND you still have your exploitable game save installed (and game handy) just in case.
I recommend backing up your entire C partition before attempting!!!
Is the friend's XBox soft modded as well, or chipped?
