ok for anyone watching on.

Slayers didnt load, it was hopeful for a second or two but...

loads the xbox splash then starts reading the dvd (I think) then it fails to the error 21 and the light flashes red/green.

My last hope is to visit my friend remove hard drive from the xbox connect it to a PC and see if we can ghost an image of his xbox hard drive to mine (im sure he has a ghosted image of his original xbox....something I should have done and not just my games saves)

for anyone following on at home

took it to my friends place, he then wasted a day fixing it.

The fix was to hot swap it with his original xbox drive (there is a tutorial somewhere on this site to do this) and then once he was able to get into it
- boot to the MS Dash and change the settings to show HD while the component cable was plugged in (this is what stuffed me in the first place)
- reinstall the soft mod
- reinstall evox and xbmc


Thankfully my game saves were not lost (I do have them backed up of course) although i had to reconfigure the xbmc xml file

Hopefully this will point someone in the right direction when this happens to them
