Yes, Another Ms Dash Question
« on: July 31, 2005, 12:28:00 PM »

So I'm trying to fix a few xbox's I've got my hands on. The one I'm working on currently was unplugged during a dash update. The MS dash was killed, and it was then left unplugged  for more than 3 hours. So the gentleman gave it to me, not wanting to spend any money to fix his new doorstop.
I bought an S.P. Ice adapter and Xenium Ice chip to let me FTP in and fix the problem. I installed it, and the xenium OS came up, and I FTP'd into the box just fine. Now here is where I have a problem.
I read a few threads in here to find out what exactly to replace, and proceeded to replace the C:\fonts, xboxdashdata.185ead00, xodash, xboxbook.xtf, xbox.xtf, and xboxdash.xbe. All of which I got from MY chipped xbox. Then I started up the box and added "retail kernel_A"  to the Launch menu. I launched it and the everything goes as planned for a minute..... flubber screen ..... MS ...... then something completely unexpected happened. It tried to start MS dash and then it froze midway through. (When the MS dash starts up, there is a green sphere that starts out small in the upper right hand corner and then starts to get bigger. It froze as the sphere started to get bigger) Weird... very weird.
I tried re-FTPing everything, taking the chip out, and removing a file that was not in MY xbox C:\ drive (settings_adoc.xip)  I was unfamiliar with that file and thought it may have been the problem.... but it wasn't so I put it back in. Still freezes....and reboots......freezes and reboots....etc. What could be the problem? Could the files I got from MY xbox be modified and/or corrupted? They work fine in MY xbox though. Did I replace too much?
So now I'm not exactly sure what to do. I have since downloaded and successfully burned the latest autoinstaller deluxe but I'm unaware of a way to get the box to read it.   (Yes it is burned correctly. It works on MY xbox)  So then I thought I would have to get my hands on a copy of the MS Dash. I went back to the usual place and downloaded a MS 5713 bios file. It is a .bin file and I have absolutely NO idea what to do with it. (bios.bin)

If any of you could help me out in any way, it will be HIGHLY appreciated! Thanks in advance, Frustrated.

Not that any of you are following this thread, but I figured I 'd update you on my issue.

I soon realized that the newly chipped xbox couldn't read the autoinstaller disc becasue I needed a hacked bios. So I burned a DVD-R with evox bios and flashed the chip. I then took out the bios DVD, put in the autoinstaller disc, and rebooted with the evox bios. It loaded the disc perfectly. So I clicked on install dashboards and put on MS Dash 5960. It extracted it and completed. So I took the disc out and rebooted. I tried booting the MS dash from both the hacked bios and the retail. Same results from both.... FREEZES on the MS dash. So I installed evolutionx 3935 onto the C:\ drive and tried to launch it. (First from the menu in the autoinstaller, "Boot dashboards, Boot C drive dash" as well as using it's file manager and actually clicking the evoxdash.xbe.) Each time it goes to the MS dash and freezes before any writing comes up. Huh? Why would it try to boot the MS dash when I clicked on the evoxdash.xbe?
So I decided to install unleashx onto the C:\ as well. No luck. After that I installed Avalaunch onto the E:\ and lauched it successfully through the installer's "Boot Dashboards, Boot E drive dash" menu. Used the option to launch MS Dash in Avalaunch and it freezes on the start as usual.
What could be keeping evoxdash from booting? What the heck is wrong with the MS dash? Something must be messed up in the C:\, and I have NO IDEA what it could be. I'm going to erase Avalaunch and try to put evoxdash on the E:\ to make sure there is no problems with it.

EDIT: I installed evoxdash3935 onto the E:\ and it works fine. Tried launching the MS Dash from there and it froze in it's usual way. AARRRRGGGHHHH! ........ Sorry, just a little PO'ed.

Any Ideas?

Hey dude.
So How did it go.
Im currently trying to get MS Dash 5960 back and stumbled across your thread.

Im just madly trying to get my hands on a copy of the dash so I can install it on my xbox, presumably just like you would any other dash right?

I really dont like looking at PAL50 and am trying to find a way to change it to PAL60. I figure loading MS Dash 5960 is the only way to do it. IS there another way?

PS - sorry for hi-jacking this tread but it seemed pretty dormant.

Well.....here goes. I tried EVERYTHING (to my small knowledge of course) to get the dash to work. So I thought my C drive must be corrupt. Which led me to formatting it. I've formatted the C drive a bunch of times(with the xenium, slayers, FTP, and autoinstaller deluxe2), reinstalled the MS dash from the installers as well as from FTP (from backups I have) a bunch of times, used slayers to "full install/rebuild retail hd-5960" as well as "restore retail xbox hd to factory," all with NO success. I have ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA why this isn't working, and I have no idea what to do.

As for the dash, a new xbox live enabled game will reinstall the dash for you. If your xbox is modded you can use autoinstaller deluxe 2.0 (or higher) to install the latest MS dash (5960 I think) as well.

Hope you have better luck than me man.
